It beats laminate!

All flooring sucks. Loose lay vinyl and carpet ftw!

Hahaha your suffering brings me joy.

I remember when my mum made me tear up the asbestos tiles to put that stuff in. Good times.

Yeah the laminate samples chipped when you breathed on them. This stuff is pretty durable.

However, it was engineered by assholes. The only snapping you hear is the vertebrae in your spine.

Sounds wonderful! We have asbestos under several other layers of vinyl in the kitchen. The floor is an inch higher than the rest of the house.

Oof, good luck there, bud. A face mask might not be a bad idea for that. Or just paying for someone to do it.

Yeah we know someone who owns their own abatement company. So that’s our route. Years away from a kitchen remodel though.

Eh, might be worth getting the asbestos out of your home sooner rather than later, though.

As long as we don’t disturb it, it's okay. Walls and piping are all luckily asbestos free to my surprise (this house is old)

I build a lot of booths for shows so I do know how bad it can be. I did the Hyundai booth in LA and it had acres of Corian panel floors! Of course with a booth that large nothing comes out perfect even with lasers keeping us on track. So we had to custom cut a lot near the walls. If your room is not square it is a bitch, booths are always crazy designs and angles so we hardly ever get a parallel wall. I lived in Hawaii for years and many older houses are not square due to the climate, warped. I mostly do graphics now, flooring is a bitch. I just finished the super bowl move in yesterday and I had to help with the astroturf on the Fed Ex area. I hate that shit.

Read up on asbestos from a reputable source. Tons of scare headlines put out by companies trying to get your business. Asbestos is a hazard if you breathe it over a long period. It is not like lead or mercury where skin contact can be hazardous. As always, knowledge is power. You have a better chance of getting a fair shake from a car repair place when you have some knowledge right?

Ya know, I’ve done all type of flooring in the various houses I’ve owned. Ceramic tile may be messy and time consuming, but it’s the easiest to make look good without frustration.

The click flooring like you're doing always bows on me.

Multiple layers is unfortunately a rather common thing. A lot of homeowners like to just add another layer on account of the convenience.

But I’ve seen as many as seven layers in one room. Stripping that down to the subfloor was a pain, lemme tell ya. The latest perimeter of trim was installed high above it, and the owner was faced with the decision of patching all those holes, or covering it up with some really tall base trim.

Well it is easy... compared to the old way of installing wood floors.

If you’re experienced with the old way of installing wood floors, then it IS easy.

But installing flooring *properly* is never an easy 5 minute job.

I watched a friend redo his floors and he wanted to do it right so there would be NO squeaks. To achieve that, the subfloor has to be in tip top shape with no flex anywhere. Well getting the subfloor to that state took A LOT of effort and some help from more experienced family.

Redoing floors is always a big job. But when you do it yourself, you’ll take greater care so that it’s done exactly right. And then once you’re done, every time you look at it, you’ll have happy “I did that” feelings.

That’s how I feel when I look out my back window and see the roof of my garage (I replaced the shingles myself this past summer).

Maybe what you need to do is get a little creative:

How hard can it be?

I knew a guy at a store who said it was totally easy to do.
